The Addison Panther boys track team competed at the Regional track meet today at Hillsdale College. The Panther’s came away with a fourth place finish out of 14 teams. The regional track meet is the only chance the athletes have to qualify for the state finals in June. The Panthers were led by Zach Morse. Zach had phenomenal day qualifying in the 1600 meter run by finishing second and running 4:42.61. Then Zach came back to finish second in the 3200 meter run and qualify for state by running 10:22.35. This will be Zach’s first time competing at the Track and Field State Finals. Drew Rokita had a big jump in the long jump. Drew jumped 21′ 2’5″ which earned him first place and a ticket to the State Meet. Drew is only 4 inches away from the school record. Donovan Underwood continued a great year today. Earlier this year Donovan was all state in football, qualified for the state wrestling meet and today completed the trifecta by qualifying for the State Track and Field finals by throwing 129′ 8″ in the Discus. The 4 x 200 team of Josh Brown, Travis Whitaker, Caleb Gramm, and Drew Rokita placed 5th with a time of 1:35.49. This was good enough to qualify for the state meet as well. The 4 x 100 team of Josh Brown, Drew Rokita, Dakota Knieper, and Caleb Gramm also qualified for the state finals by running 46.03 and placing 3rd. Dakota Knieper came back the very next race and was regional champion in the 400 meter dash. Dakota ran a 52.30 which earned him a place at the state finals as well.
We had numerous other great times and performances today. The guys competed with heart and tenacity. They exceeded our expectations today.
The Panthers will run on Tuesday at the Cascades Conference championships held at Napoleon High School. Pole Vault will start at 2:00pm. Next weekend we will travel to Manton, MI for the Team State Finals.
